The Port of Santos is Brazil 's main port . His area of economic influence concentrates more than 50 % of gross domestic product ( GDP) and covers mainly states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais , Goiás , Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul. Approximately 90 % of São Paulo's industrial base is located less than 200 kilometers from the port of Santos.

The Santos Port Complex accounts for over a quarter of the movement of the Brazilian trade balance and include in the agenda of its main cargo products such as sugar , soybeans , container cargo , coffee, corn , wheat , salt , citrus pulp , orange juice , paper, automobiles , alcohol and other bulk líquidos. In 2007, the Port of Santos was considered the 39th largest in the world for container handling by British publication Container Management.
